Myofascial Release Therapy

Myofascial Release Therapy

At Natural Family Health Connecticut we can help you reach your full potential.
If the activity you love is limited by chronic pain or you are an athlete playing with recurrent pain
we can help. Dr. Chris Lachowski can help with active Myofascial Release Therapy. This is a proven effective treatment for cumulative trauma and repetitive strain injuries

Myofascial Release Therapy is an active manual therapy, deep tissue technique used to for breaking down scar tissue/adhesions and restoring function and movement in muscles, tendons, nerves, joint capsules, and fascia. When a muscle, tendon, fascia, or ligament is torn (strained or sprained) or a nerve is damaged, the tissues heal with adhesions or scar tissue formation rather than the formation of brand new tissue. Scar tissue is weaker, less elastic, less pliable, and more pain sensitive than healthy tissue. These fibrotic adhesions disrupt the normal muscle function, which in turn affects the biomechanics of the joint complex. This can lead to pain and dysfunction. This therapy provides a way to diagnose and treat the underlying causes of cumulative trauma disorders that, left uncorrected, can lead to inflammation, adhesions/fibrosis, and muscle imbalances. These conditions can result in weak and tense tissues, decreased circulation, hypoxia, and symptoms of peripheral nerve entrapment, including numbness, tingling, burning, and aching.

Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee pain and tennis elbow are just some of the many conditions that can be resolved permanently with an active myofascial release therapy.  These conditions all have one important thing in common:

They are often results of stressed and overused muscles and tissues.

This can occur from an accumulation of micro-trauma and inflammation that can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected areas. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue accumulates, muscles become shorter and weaker, while the tension on tendons can cause tendonitis and nerves can become entrapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength and eventually pain. If a nerve is entrapped you may also feel tingling, numbness and weakness.

At Natural Family Health Connecticut each treatment plan is highly personalized as we utilize a combination of many types of myofascial release therapies unique to your condition.  Our active care approach takes you through the evaluation, therapies, healing and postural re-balancing steps in resolving the condition and restoring pain-free activity.  The complete treatment plan may include additional therapies like joint manipulation, natural botanicals and specific nutrition for inflammation and soft tissue healing, bio-energetic micro-current electro-acupuncture and therapeutic exercises.  The goal is to restore proper bio-mechanical balance so the body can ultimately move freely without overuse stress and re-injury.
